Ohiopyle Slide
We arrived at Ohiopyle State Park in Pennsylvania and had our tent set up by around 7:00 p.m., then drove down to a parking area we had noticed on our way in (along with a bus load of helmeted people). Turns out that this area was called the Slides (for obvious reasons). A woman there noticed from my T-shirt that we were from Indiana. She said she was from Zionville and they had spent 5 hours whitewater rafting and had a great time.
A lot of kayaks on cars and some bikes as well. We drove a short distance into Ohiopyle, which is a small resort town. It is on the Yough River at a waterfall, and a rail trail runs past it. This is part of the bike trail that connects Pittsburgh to the Chesapeake and Ohio (C & O) trail at Cumberland, and I wanted to try it out.
The campground was full so I was glad we had reservations, and this place was hopping with all kinds of activities from rafting to biking, kayaking, fly fishing, and just hanging out. Falling Waters (the famous Frank Lloyd Wright home) is nearby.
Sleep was interrupted by a sophomoric camper who for some reason found humor in screaming at periodic intervals starting at roughly 2:30 a.m. (one time he shouted "time to wake up", but the others were just screams), and by at least a half dozen trains - which had a mysterious almost musical squealing sound.
