A lock house on our last day of riding (Thursday).

The canal at Great Falls had been dewatered for construction work. It was at Great Falls a couple of years ago that I first started thinking about a trip like this.

I wonder how well we would have done in areas like this if it had been raining.

Harpers Ferry (Tuesday afternoon)

Paw Paw on Monday morning. Notice our bikes loaded and ready to go while we ate breakfast at Grandmas County Kitchen.

A typical hiker/biker campsite. Most of these are not accessible by automobile.

Inside the National Cathedral (Friday)

A view of D.C. from the 7th floor of the National Cathedral. The white mansion in the middle left foreground surrounded by trees is the vice president's residence, and to the right of that the building with the white dome is the National Observatory. The Washington monument is the tall spike on the left side of the photo, and the Jefferson Memorial sits near the middle of this view. A straight line from the base of the Washington monument through the Jefferson memorial brings you to the Lincoln memorial at the right edge of the photo. The Potomac is in the background. Friday - the day after the bike trip in Georgetown.

The Custis trail takes us along I-66 to the Washington & Old Dominion Trail. The day has really heated up and we're ready to be done (Thursday).

A stone's throw from the canal, we enter the urban jungle (Key Bridge).

The end of the canal trail for us (near Mile 1) on Thursday.

The canal is wide not far downstream from Great Falls (Thursday morning)

Heather sabotaging her dad's photo of the tavern at Great Falls (Wednesday afternoon).

A deer grazing on Black Locust leaves on the opposite side of the canal.

Most of the lock houses were painted white, so this one was unique.

Wild Phlox next to the trail.

The Potomac, glimpes of which are visible on the right side of the trail as we bike.

Near the end of the Paw Paw tunnel on Monday morning.
